The 8 Track Section

I must confess that although I had a few 8 Track tapes I didn't really use them until I fixed an Akai CR-80 8 Track recorder. This was one of the top of the range machines with a glass/xtal head and a 1 micron gap in the playback head. I tried many of my tapes and all but a few sounded awful. Upon investigation and after a trawl on the internet many reasons for the lack of quality were found. Being of an economical disposition I set out to cure each in turn at little expense. The results were that the 8 track tapes took on a new lease of life and I now realize (if you ignore the crudity of the system) that the sound quality was at worst as good as a cassette and at best a lot better. Not bad for a mass produced product designed many years before the music-cassette.

Here you will find out how to fix your prized 8 Track tape collection.
